ARTIST’S STATEMENT
I am a fine artist, illustrator, and cartoonist.
My work is candid, brut introspection refined through stark rendering. As an artist, I’m dedicated to not fearing my own thoughts and feelings. I use my art to understand them and create from them. Art, to me, is about sharing yourself with others to connect and interact while expressing ideas and feelings. It’s creation for the sake of creation, to express and just be heard. Though idiosyncratic, creation is done to communicate and make connections with others. This is my voice, and I’m not using it to hear myself talk. It’s for you to hear and respond to, and I want to hear your voice. I want to reach out to other individuals who can relate to my work and do not fear what’s inside.
The medium of comics has always spoken to me profoundly. It’s unique from other visual art mediums, as its combined use of words, symbols, and images makes up multiple sequential pieces to form an overall piece. The process of making a comic, as well as reading and absorbing one, is an intimate experience. My own comics work is a self-deprecating mix of meditation and dark humor. I self-publish an irregular series called Drawing Blanks.
Apart from comics, my visual art consists of drawings, illustrations, and paintings. Expressionist, contorted, bold, commanding, agressive, dark; These are terms people’ve thrown out before to describe the aesthetic and/or feeling of what I make. I don’t work to fit in any box, so self-description has always been a disinteresting chore to me, and I like to think my work is still evolving. I appreciate all responses to my work.
I’m an outsider musician, without musical instruction or education, relying on vigorous experimentation. I employ synthesizers, samples, and recorded noises to create visceral sound collages.
